I had a vision of a tree living a life over 100 years long, standing in the same place, growing roots, drinking water and nutrients from the soil, growing branches and leaves upward, collecting sunlight from the sky.  This vision inspired me to play with an FEA (Finite Element Analysis) simulation of the tree, by dividing the 3D space of the tree into a regular grid of cubes.  A simple experiment is shown above.  The blue is water, the yellow is sunlight, the brown is dirt, the green is the as yet dormant seed of the tree.
